Dove Cottage is a beautifully decorated property, right in the heart of Whitby's Church Street, but set in a quiet yard. Church Street is indeed one of Whitby's oldest, yet finest streets and was originally known as Kirkgate, dating back to the 1300's. With a touch of York, a taste of Camden and the culture of Yorkshire, Church Street really is such an awesome place to visit. Set above a shop and dates back to the 1800's, but has been lovingly restored, and offers home comforts after a day of exploring the local area whilst retaining some of its original features. You will find many shops to suit a diversity of tastes and needs. This area of town is littered with art galleries, photography studios, book shops, traditional sweet shops and jewellery outlets (some specialising in Whitby Jet), plus many great and varied places to eat and drink. There is a great variety of food outlets available in Whitby, from award-winning fish and chips to classy bistros.
Explore the 3 miles of beach, take a trip out on a boat, or climb the 199 steps to the top of the abbey and enjoy a fantastic view of the town. Stroll around the famous abbey and St Mary's Church, which was made famous by links to Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'. Keep an eye out for one of the many festivals and events going on in Whitby, including music festival, Goth Weekender and the Annual Regatta. Along the Heritage Coast, you will find many hidden bays, such as Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes, all with their own story of piracy to tell and stunning views of the coast.
Whitby is also set along the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, so it is ideal for hikers and cyclists who can make the most of the nearby Cleveland Way and National Cycling Network. The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway departs from the town on a regular basis, and snakes it way through 'Heartbeat' country into the depths of the Yorkshire Moors National Park. The Cinder Track is another of the great walks dotted around this coastal area, or try a stroll around Falling Foss Waterfall. The medieval walled city of York is just an hour away, boasting many attractions such as The National Rail Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Guests staying at the property are given a 10% discount in both Daisy James and the Sanders Yard Bistro. Beach 250 yards. Shop and pub 50 yards, restaurant next door.
